Red Hornet

As if to prove that what we see on race boats one day becomes available to all the next, DynaYacht have developed the Dnayflyer 40, Red Hornet.

With it's canting Open 60-type keel and fore and aft canards, like an America's Cup yacht, this 40-footer (12.2m) will pace and outsail 70-foters (21.3m) and did just that in Chicago-Mac and Bayview races.

Half the weight of conventional 40-footers, at around 3 tonnes, Red Hornet is simple to handle and highly manoeuvrable under her twin tiller-operated rudders. The ballast keel cants 110 degrees, or 55 degrees either side, powered by rapid-action electrically-driven hydraulics.

"No other boat under 48 feet came near us," said Peter Isler, DynaYacht's marketing vice president. Introductory price is $150,000.
